Why Start The Helping Friendly Network?
11/19/94 - Bloomington, Indiana
I'm a freshman who had just discovered Phish and knew a handful of tunes...
They announced a show at the IU Auditorium, and I didn't pay much attention to it. But as the date got closer, a few buddies decided to get tickets, and on the day of the show, I saw a flyer with pull tabs that said, "Tix Available."
I pulled a tab, made a call, and landed two front row tickets for $50 each.

As I'm walking to the show with my friend Bill, he asked what I wanted to hear.
My response was, "I'd love to hear some Zeppelin!"

After Bill laughed at me and told me they weren't a cover band, we rolled in and saw a show that completely rewired my 18-year-old brain.
AND THEN BOOM!!!!!
Good Times Bad Times to close the second set.
I was done.
From there, it became how many shows can I see in as many different places as possible. Deer Creek, The Gorge, Hampton, Vegas, Mexico, MSG - it didn't matter. All that mattered was I was in the building. Hopefully with some friends, but even that wasn't critical.
Tens of thousands of miles, laughs, stories, and grooves later, I'm still on tour.
It's just that now, the tour includes a few more adult responsibilities...Taking care of my family. Building a career. Saving for retirement.
Finding ways to make the second set even better than the first.
What I've always loved about this community is that while we all have our own stories from the road, we're also teachers, business owners, salespeople, executives, entrepreneurs, consultants, and professionals. We spend a few nights a year dancing in the same room, but the other 360 days we're building businesses, raising families, and trying to make our way through life just like everyone else.
The Helping Friendly Network was created to bring those two worlds together.
A place where the same community that has given us so many memories, friendships, and experiences can also help us professionally.
We're already sharing in the groove. Why not share opportunities, too?
